Petrol/ Gas Prices: UK vs. US

We recently compared the price of a journey in the US vs. the same in the UK. The 571 mile round trip at 43 miles/gallon costs £118 ($236) in the UK, but only £17.50 ($35) in the US ($2.55/gallon + 16¢/gallon SC sales tax). It is down to all the "stealth tax" that Gordon Brown is ripping us off with in the name of the environment.
