Click on the picture to watch this interesting fable about modern medicine. I think the message at the end is the important part. Some of what the website linked to it says may be worth checking out too.

I think the video shows the obstinancy of the human spirit to any change. I recently read an article about a medical researcher who identified in the '60s that lactic acid was a fuel within muscles and not (as wrongly believed) causing the degredation of muscle performance. Yes, the medical community can be rather unquestioning about received orthodoxy, esp. in N.I. How dare you disagree with the experts! We had to diagnose Mary's PCOS and treat it ourselves. The N.I. medical community can be so backward! (At least in our experience.)
Sometimes I think NHS doctors should spend some time as engineers to learn about analyis, diagnosis, logic and problem-solving, as well as know a bit more about being accountable to their customer. The NHS has a lot to do with this in how it confines the ability of the doctors to diagnose and treat illnesses.
